Alliance for Heart Failure update February 2025
2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the Alliance for Heart Failure and we’re very excited that this year is shaping up to be one of our busiest yet. This update brings you our new strategy and some exciting developments across a number of our campaigns.
Primary care webinar
On the 27th February the Alliance will host a special educational webinar bringing together the country’s leading heart failure specialists. Primary care health professionals will learn how to enhance their heart failure care using the latest clinical guidelines and NICE pathways.
Our speakers include Professor Simon Ray, Louise Clayton, Nick-Hartshorne Evans, and Dr Jim Moore. Please support us in spreading the word about this exciting initiative via your channels and healthcare professional contacts.

The webinar has been organised by 3:nine Consulting on behalf of the Alliance for Heart Failure. Astrazeneca, Medtronic, Novartis, and Novo Nordisk have provided sponsorship to 3:nine Consulting to cover the costs of developing and running the webinar. Astrazeneca, Medtronic, Novartis, and Novo Nordisk have had no influence over the meeting agenda or arrangements.
NHS Ten Year Plan consultation and British Heart Foundation consensus statement
The Alliance submitted its consultation to the NHS’s Ten Year Plan, laying out its policy proposals for a strategy in primary care to improve heart failure diagnosis and care. Our response highlighted the ongoing problem of cardiac rehabilitation uptake, the British Society for Echocardiograhy’s workforce recommendations, and support for Pumping Marvellous BEAT HF initiative as part of a broader call for a national awareness campaign focusing on both patients and healthcare professionals.
The Alliance has also signed the British Heart Foundation’s consensus statement calling for a dedicated National Cardiovascular Disease Plan as part of the government’s Ten Year Plan.
Strategy for 2025 and early diagnosis report
The Alliance has agreed its strategy for 2025, with plans for a report formalising the research and outreach carried out since the Call to Action report on expanding NT-proBNP testing, improving heart failure specialism in pharmacies and primary care, and promoting the adoption of NICE guidelines.
The paper will bring together this research and best practice around improving early detection and diagnosis of heart failure in primary care, supporting the government’s focus on prevention, early diagnosis, and community focused care.
Abbott event in Parliament
Our co-chair Preeti Minhas represented the Alliance at an event in Parliament in January hosted by Abbott and the British Society for Heart Failure on driving improvements in care and outcomes for people with heart failure.
